The Yard of the Month has been a “Civic Development Project” for the Club since April of 1971. Originally, judging occurred from April through October with special judging in December for Christmas decorations. All the members were responsible for judging five sections of the City.
In 1995, coordination of Yard of the Month became the Constitutional responsibility of the Civic Development Committee. In 1998, “Meadowglen,” the area south of West Airport, became a sixth section, called “Section V” (as Section IV is divided into two sub-sections). For the 2007-2008 Club year and through 2014, awards were given only from May through August with Club volunteers to judge each section.
The Club now provides awards from May to September and continues to award homes for Fourth of July, Halloween, and Christmas décor. The volunteers judge yards during the last three days of the month, recognizing a yard in each of the six sections of Meadows Place which best meet the following guidelines:
SELECTION GUIDELINES Overall Landscaping: variety and symmetry Lawns: condition and manicure Shrubs: condition, quality and suitability Trees: condition, quality and trim Annuals & Accessories: seasonal color, harmony (no artificial plants or flowers).
